A Stressful PET Exam
Last year, when I was in Singapore I took an important examination called Cambridge PET exam and I think taking the Cambridge PET exam was one of
the most nerve-wracking but fulfilling experiences of my English learning journey. The test consisted of four parts: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Each tests different skills.
The reading section came first. I had to answer questions about various texts, from short notices to longer articles. Time management was crucial here - I nearly spent too long on the first few questions!
For the writing part, I wrote an e-mail to a friend about a school event and a short story based on pictures. I focused on using correct grammar and interesting vocabularies to make my writing stand out.
After a break, came the listening test. This was the hardest part for me. We heard conversations and monologues only once, and I had to concentrate extremely hard to catch all the details while also reading the questions.
Finally, the speaking test was surprisingly enjoyable. My partner and I discussed photographs, then we had a conversation about hobbies and travel. The examiner was friendly, which helped me to calm my nerves.
